Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier

Created by Jacques Cavallier, Classique was launched in 1993. Jacques Cavallier is a master perfumer who has worked for multiple luxurious brands. Classique was introduced as the Jean Paul Gaultier brand’s first fragrance for women.

One of the most appealing characteristics of Classique is its bottle design. The bottle is shaped like a female torso dressed in a corset, influenced by Gaultier’s famous corset dresses and Madonna’s iconic cone bra worn during the 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour. Its timeless scent, which embodies the idea of seduction and femininity, also contributes to its long-lasting reputation.

Although the exact sales are unknown, Classique was a big commercial success from its launch. It continues to be one of the best-selling perfumes by Jean Paul Gulatier. Its success can be seen through the creation of multiple flankers, which are newly created perfumes that share some characteristics of an already released perfume.

The top notes of the fragrance consist of orange, blossom, mandarin, and star anise, creating a bright and sweet combination. The heart note is a floral bouquet, featuring rose, ylang-ylang, and ginger, mixed slightly with plum and orchid. The base notes are vanilla, amber, musk, and sandalwood, creating a long-lasting scent that lingers with sweetness and powder.

Classique remains one of the most popular perfumes today, representing Gaultier’s fashion philosophy: bold, sensual, and unconventional.
