N°19 by Chanel

Launched in 1970, Chanel N°19 was the last fragrance that was personally overseen by Coco Chanel before her death. The fragrance was named after her birthday: August 19th. Henri Robert, the in-house perfumer at Chanel at the time, created the perfume.

Chanel N°19 has a prominent scent from a combination of green, flora, and woody notes. The top notes are green galbanum, bergamot, and neroli, giving it a fresh scent. Then, the heart note is a bouquet of floral notes, including iris, rose, lily of the valley, and narcissus. Out of these florals, iris is the most prominent. The base notes feature vetiver, oakmoss, leather, sandalwood, and musk, giving a contrasting scent to the florals that came beforehand.

Although the exact sales are unknown, N°19 still remains as one of the most renowned and popular fragrances until today. It’s considered a classic in the Chanel fragrance lineup. However, it appeals to a more niche audience than Chanel N°5.

N°19’s appeal to the public has continued for over decades, making it a classic that many people find over and over again.
