Joy by Jean Patou

Joy was launched during the Great Depression, offering a sense of luxury and escapism to people encountering economic hardships at the time. It was created in 1930 by Henri Alméras under the direction of Jean Patou, a fashion designer.

Joy is famous for its extravagant use of floral ingredients. One ounce contains over 10,000 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses. Its rich floral bouquet captivated many iconic figures like Vivien Leigh and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. As a result, it was celebrated as the “Scent of the Century” in 2000. The perfume bottle, designed by architect Louis Süe, features luxurious elements like a gold lead decoration and a ground glass stopper.

Along with the jasmine and rose as its main, or heart notes,, ylang-ylang, tuberose, and aldehyes complement the scent as the top notes. Musk, sandalwood, and civet are featured as the base notes, creating a rich floral scent.

Just as the name suggests, Joy brought many people joy and will continue to.
