Kingdom by Alexander McQueen
Kingdom was launched as Alexander McQueen’s first signature fragrance during the height of his fame as a fashion designer. McQueen intended to create a fragrance that would represent his artistic vision. As a result, Jacques Cavallier created Kingdom, which embodies the ideas of strength, femininity, and subversion.
The top notes are mandarin orange, neroli, and bergamot. The heart notes are jasmine, rose, and ginger. Lastly, the base notes are myrrh, cumin, and sandalwood. Overall, the scent is a juxtaposition of sweet and spicy.
The most controversial aspect of the fragrance is its heavy use of cumin. Some found it to be earthy and warm, but others found it to be too sweaty, sharp, or even reminiscent of body odor. Additionally, the combination of cumin, ginger, and myrrh creates an animalic vibe, which people found to be unpleasant.
Overall, those who are into bold, avant-grade fragrances with the mixture of spiciness and sweetness would find Kingdom appealing.
