Pierre Bourdon
Pierre Bourdon, a French perfumer, initially studied political science. However, after being inspired by perfumer Edmond Roudnitska, he shifted to become a perfumer. He trained for five years at Roure in Grasse under Roudnitska and Jean Carles. The release of Yves Saint Laurent’s Kouros and Davidoff’s Cool Water was iconic. Particularly, Cool Water revolutionized the fragrance industry by introducing an “aquatic” genre that is characterized by fresh, ocean-like notes.
He’s known for having innovative and genre-defining fragrances. He’s especially great at capturing the essence of the brands he works with, creating fragrances that capture their values and visions. Iris Poudre, the first perfume for Editions de Parfums, particularly captures his style well. Outside of perfumery, he has a deep appreciation for art and culture. He often gets inspiration from visual arts and history when creating fragrances.
Bourdon is now less active in commercial perfumery. He still remains influential by mentoring and consulting the new generation of perfumers.
