Carlos Benaïm
Born in Tangiers, Morocco, Carlos Benaïm’s interest in perfumery began through his father who had a passion for extracting essential oils. He studied chemical engineering before beginning his career as a perfumer. His career with International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) is well-known, especially because he was the first-ever Master Perfumer in the company’s history. Polo Green by Ralph Lauren solidified his reputation as a perfumer.
He’s known for creating fragrances that emphasize simplicity, which he thinks is a pivotal characteristic for a perfumer. He’s also known for the concept of “invisible connections,” creating harmonious fragrances. Outside of perfumery, he’s been involved in a charity called the International Sephardic Education Foundation (ISEF) that supports educational opportunities for disadvantaged students. He even became the President of ISEF in 2017.
Carlos Benaïm remains active in the industry as the Chairperson of the IFF Global Creative Council. His recent successful fragrances include Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf and Spicebomb.
