Germaine Cellier

Germaine Cellier, a French perfumer, was one of the few female perfumists during her time. She studied chemistry before beginning her career at Roure Bertrand Dupont, now merged with Givaudan. Her breakout success came with the creation of Bandit for Robert Piguet, a fragrance that blended green and leathery notes, which was revolutionary. Francas solidified her reputation as a master perfumist.

She created fragrances with bold ingredients, resulting in unorthodox scents. She often presented high doses of specific notes. For example, in Vent Vert, there was a high dosage of galbanum. Outside of perfumery, she was known for her resilient and independent personality. This can be seen through her efforts to break norms in a then male-domianted industry.

She passed away in 1976, but her creations, particularly Fracas, are still highly loved. Her fragrances continue to influence and inspire new generations of perfumists.
