Jacques Polge

Similar to François Demachy, Jacques Polge was born in Grasse, France, which caused him to have a natural interest in perfumery. He pursued literature before entering the world of fragrances, becoming the head perfumer of Chanel from 1978 to 2015. His creation of Chanel Coco secured Polge’s reputation as a perfumer.

He’s known for using rich, complex compositions that are likable to a wide audience. When creating his compositions, he approaches in an innovative way to combine classical elements with modern touches. As mentioned above, Jacques Polge pursued literature, which he continues to this day. His background influences his approach when creating perfumes.

Before retiring, his last major success was Chanel Bleu de Chanel. It became a popular perfume with its fresh and aromatic scent. After retiring, he stepped away from the public eye. Currently, his son, Oliver Polge, is the head perfumer for Chanel.
