L'INTERDIT

Created by the same perfumer as Nina Ricci L’Air Du Temps, L’Interdit was launched in 1957. The fragrance was originally a personal gift exclusively for Audrey Hepburn, a famous actress and muse of Hubert de Givenchy, Givenchy’s founder. It was made available to the public afterwards.

L’Interdit is iconic for being one of the first celebrity-inspired perfumes. When Givenchy wanted to release the fragrance, Hepburn reportedly joked, “Je vous l’interdis” (I forbid you). This story and Hepburn’s fame helped the fragrance gain its recognition.

The top notes of the original L’Interdit are aldehydes, bergamot, peach, and strawberry, giving a fresh, fruity scent. The heart notes consist of rose, jasmine, violet, and narcissus, creating a classic, floral scent. The base notes are sandawal, amber, iris, and vetiver, giving the fragrance depth and longevity. Its scent became the symbol of feminine elegance today.

In 2018, Givenchy re-released L’Interdit in a modern version. The contemporary version is designed to appeal to modern women who defy convention, giving a bolder scent. This re-release created a significant buzz, becoming a favorite.

L’Interdit remains iconic and popular until this day, showing how beautiful a scent can be when inspired by somebody.
