Sunlight’s Impact on Perfume
It’s a beautiful sight to see your perfume bottle in front of your window when the sun is shining down on it. However, would this sunlight possibly damage your perfume?
There’s a great chance that sunlight can affect your perfume. When you put anything down in the sunlight for too long, you can feel that the object becomes warmer due to the transfer of heat. The light and heat of the sun will break down the chemical bonds in your perfume, which causes changes to the scent. The scent could possibly smell different than before or become less powerful.
Since heat can alter a perfume, someone might ask if anything would happen if you wear perfume outside on a hot summer day. If you wear perfume outside on a hot day, the scent itself wouldn’t be affected, but the scent would evaporate at a faster rate than usual. This happens because the fragrance molecules move faster and escape into the air more quickly when the temperature rises. So during the summer, it would be better to wear Eau de Parfum than Eau de Cologne or any fragrances with lower concentrations if you want the scent to last longer.
