Why Are Perfumes Expensive?
Even though I love most things about perfumes, one thing that stops me from buying perfumes sometimes is the price. Some perfumes are more expensive than expected, which makes me wonder why perfume is so expensive in the first place.
Sometimes, the ingredients can be the reason behind its high price. Rare and exotic ingredients cost a lot of money, and trying to extract or create their scents through chemicals makes it pricier. Bulgarian Rose is an example of a rare ingredient. Its picking season only lasts from May to June every year in the Bulgarian Rose Valley. It usually costs $230 for one eighth of an ounce due to its scarcity.
The oil concentration of the perfume can determine the price, too. Usually, the higher oil concentration a fragrance has, the price becomes higher, too. This is why Eau de Parfum is more expensive than Eau de Cologne.
A price doesn’t necessarily mean that the fragrance smells better, so it’s important to research to find the perfume that you want in an affordable price range.
